Off with their heads!

I’ve been surprised by what I see as I leaf through the French Revolution Collection (FRC).  I was hoping to find a lot of strong feelings on whether the King and Mrs. King should lose their heads.  There are some, but not an overwhelming amount.  What there are, is a lot of pamphlets that are about other things: taxes, currency, immigration and emigration (plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose!), crime, roads, food supply, natural resources, infrastructure.  Some pamphlets seem to be little more than long-winded politicians saying little (again I say, plus ça change…).  It’s a reminder that even in the midst of a revolution, there was a country to run with all the pressing and mundane things it takes to run a country.
